Attorney Mooradian recently spoke alongside Attorney Dayanna Moreno, Director of Legal Assistance at Ascentria Care Alliance, during their Asylum 101 seminar. The seminar was geared toward members of Ascentria’s pro bono panel. Mooradian spoke with the pro bono panel about both legal requirements of asylum (demonstrating persecution, government actors, and bars to admissibility), as well as the practical challenges of interviewing clients who have survived persecution and torture.
Mooradian particularly highlighted a few examples of clients. Some of these included torture survivors from African countries, as well as young Latino men who have faced spurious gang allegations. He also spoke to the challenges that detention presents in terms of access to justice and the availability of asylum protections.
