Attorney Mooradian Speaks at Ascentria Community Information Session

Attorney Mooradian joined several other immigration attorneys speaking on a panel regarding immigration policy following the new Trump administration.  In particular, Attorney Mooradian and other panelists addressed concerns that immigrants in the City of Worcester might have under the administration.

The attorneys together reviewed the forms of relief that might be available to undocumented immigrants, including relief such as asylum or protection under the convention against torture.  Attorney Mooradian warned, however, that undocumented people must remain vigilant and obtain proper immigration advice.  In fact, Attorney Mooradian commended the crowd for coming to the community panel to get accurate and honest information, as opposed to obtaining information from friends or unlicensed persons practicing law.  

While the Trump administration can have great impacts on enforcement priorities, especially for those with existing orders of removal or criminal history, the panelists suggested that the president cannot necessarily affect local policing practices or some of the most powerful forms of relief for undocumented people.  In fact, a representative of the Worcester Police Department, along with Mayor Joseph Petty, stressed the city's commitment to protecting immigrant populations within the City of Worcester.  All presenters agreed on the importance of obtaining proper legal advice, even if just for a consultation, before making a decision that could affect one's immigration status.
